It is so crazy how this little superberry from the Amazon, called açaí, has become so popular in the recent years. Açaí bowls have been consumed in my home country Brazil for ages though. And back when I was still living there, like 10 years ago, when I still was a junk-food-vegetarian and didn’t even know what antioxidants were I didn’t care much for açaí. But my taste buds have changed!
The truth is, açaí by itself doesn’t taste amazing. It is not sweet and has an earthy flavour. But when blended with other fruit then it’s a different story.
You can buy frozen açaí pulp in most health food stores. The one I normally get is from the brand Amazonia, but there’s other brands that stock it in Australia as well. And I prefer the pack with pure açaí pulp (you can also buy açaí blended with other fruits). Then I just blend it with a frozen banana, a cup of frozen blueberries, some protein powder for some extra energy boost and that’s it. Top it with your favourite granola (I have a great recipe here) and fresh fruit and it’s like having ice cream for breakfast. But it’s ice cream that you can eat without guilt.
