Following a healthy lifestyle doesn’t have to be hard, but it does require a bit of planning. Nobody is perfect and every once in a while I also fall off the wagon. I am not proud to admit this but I am an emotional eater. This is something I am working on and trying to overcome. Whenever I am stressed or down I always end up making the wrong food choices which give me instant gratification but make me regret a few minutes later.
If I am running late in the morning and have nothing easy to prep for breakfast at home it is quite convenient to just go to the cafe at work and pick up something quick to eat that isn’t necessarily healthy. That’s why I started making these frozen smoothie packs. That way I have absolutely no excuses as it only takes 5 minutes to blend a smoothie that I can easily put in a bottle and drink on the way to work.
I usually buy a variety of fruits and veggies, chop it all up and put in freezer friendly zip lock bags. This process only requires around 30 minutes of preparation and at the end I have about 15 smoothie packs that will last me two weeks! That’s it, 30 minutes, every two weeks, it’s not that much effort!
The best thing about using a variety of fruits and veggies is that you don’t need to have the same smoothie every day. You can play around with different combinations. I also write on the outside of the bag what the ingredients are and the date I’m freezing it (not that it matters because I go through these smoothie packs so quickly). I believe that freezing these for up to 3 months wouldn’t be a problem. You can also reuse the ziplock bags. Just give them a wash and let them dry and they will be as perfect as new.
I usually blend the contents of my smoothie pack with 1 cup of veggie milk (almond or coconut), and sometimes I add things like chia seeds, spirulina or chlorela for my green smoothies, maca and protein powder. It depends on what I feel like on the day.
