There’s nothing better than a healthy, energy-boosting, super tasty breakfast to start the day. I have mentioned here before that I am obsessed with smoothies and that’s what I usually have every morning but I am running out of smoothie recipe ideas and it’s time for a change. Cereal for breakfast, maybe?
I had never made my own granola before so I thought I’d give it a try. When I was looking for granola recipes though most of them included a lot of oil and sugar. I didn’t really like that. I wanted a healthier version.
So I created my very own recipe with absolutely no added oil. I didn’t add any processed sugars either. The sweetness came from one tablespoon of maple syrup and the juice of one orange. It worked! My granola was super crunchy and tasted amazing. It wasn’t overly sweet but that’s ok, for me it was just right. I also added cinnamon for some extra flavour, macadamia nuts, almonds, pumpkin seeds and coconut flakes. You can serve it with yogurt or an açaí bowl, or even with just some veggie milk.
I couldn’t believe how easy it was to make it. You just have to keep an eye on it when it’s in the oven so it doesn’t burn. I will definitely make my own granola again, and I can already think of so many other flavour and ingredient combinations I could create.
